The design of the new hotel utilises the sites unique characteristics, endeavouring to respond abstractly to the rhythm, scale and proportion of the existing building and the variety of buildings with within its close environment. It acknowledges existing landmarks like the historic McWhirtes Building located on the opposite corner, and also pays homage to the well known Waltons Building, located in the street opposite, both of which had historically formed part of this secondary retail hub to the Brisbane City centre.

The form of the new building, while principally derived from the tight site constraints, is an attempt to energetically contribute to the larger “downtown” cityscape, mostly comprised of low rise buildings in this entertainment precinct.
