This 30,000 square metre office building is the new Victorian Headquarters for The Bureau of Meteorology. The flexible design maximises integration between work teams and minimises energy usage.
The brief called for large, flexible typical floor plates that offered future tenants maximum flexibility in the design of their offices. The large floor plates have been arranged around morning and afternoon ‘wintergardens’.
Most importantly, the wintergardens connect both physically and visually the northern and southern plates on each typical floor. For multi-floor tenants, they provide inter-floor connectivity to assist large organisations in developing a true team spirit between staff spread over a number of floors.
Personal safety and fire engineering have been blended with mixed mode air systems to minimise energy usage and maximise air quality for the occupant.
The building form and façade composition express the planning strategy through heavier, limited glazing to the east and west, and lighter, more abundant glazing to the north and south.
