This major new office tower will be a significant 21st century addition to the Brisbane city skyline. The tower takes an unusual form in response to its particular urban context and the needs of its commercial office tenants.
The 60,000sqm tower enjoys a prime business address on Queen Street with extensive views of the Brisbane River. The site also has a long frontage to Adelaide Street, opposite the historic St John’s Anglican Cathedral. The design takes advantage of the eastern views across the river and towards Moreton Bay, as well as the key northern aspect.
A lower podium incorporates retail and entrance lobbies, focused around a major terraced pedestrian space with views to the Cathedral. The large landscaped area provides a substantial recreational space to the tower workers. Rising above this is a 10-storey podium with 3000sqm floor plates around a naturally-lit atrium space, suitable for large institutional tenants seeking a ‘campus’ style workplace.
The mid-rise and high-rise components of the tower are accommodated in a smaller footprint of approximately 1,500sqm rising up to 40 levels. The façade expression, composition, materials and colours respond to the Cathedral at podium level, the scale of the surrounding built forms, and a concern for a complementary relationship between the podium and tower elements.
