Working sensitively with the older fabric and minimising any changes to that; the new work is “knitted” into the old, creating a more open and intimate relationship with the back garden. A large living, area, dining kitchen space will accommodate all the pressures of a small growing family over the years who will enjoy the shade of the jacaranda tree during the summer months. The new work is completed in darker tones but similar materials than the older cottage whose quietly dignified original details are treated with a sparsity of finish and detailing to highlight their character and contribution to the overall completed whole.
